Black Soil, Then a Lake
Heath started as farmland. The City of Heath's history says the area was first called Black Hills for its dark soil, took the Heath name in 1886 after early settler John O. Heath, and incorporated in 1959. The lake arrived in 1969, covering old Barnes Bridge Road. People kept coming for what the city calls "the openness of rural living", and Heath grew from 520 residents in 1970 to 9,769 at the 2020 census.

How Heath's Pickup Rules Differ
Heath doesn't run the same program as Rockwall. According to the city's trash page, bulk items such as furniture go curbside by 7 am on your trash day, and brush is collected on the first and third Mondays, up to three cubic yards for utility customers. Appliances are accepted only with Freon removed and certified, and minor home improvement debris is limited to one cubic yard.
The city's not-accepted list includes roofing, contractor debris, dirt, rocks, concrete, tires, electronics and wooden pallets. Those are the jobs people here tend to hire out, along with anything too far from the road to carry. Check the page for current details before you set anything out.
